Ziggurat named 'Best Red Wine DOC/DOCG' for the second year running, according to the 'L'Umbria del Vino' competition

This year it was the 2020 vintage of Tenute Lunelli’s Ziggurat Montefalco Rosso that won the second edition of the ‘L’Umbria del Vino’ competition in the ‘Vini Rossi DOC/DOCG’ category.
Having also been awarded in the previous year’s competition for the 2019 vintage, Ziggurat is a wine that represents a perfect synthesis of the power of Sagrantino and the elegance of Sangiovese, fully expressing the charm of an ancient and generous territory such as Umbria.
Seventeen wineries were awarded prizes following a blind tasting of 162 wines (whites, reds, rosés, sparkling wines, lightly sparkling wines and sweet wines) from 58 Umbrian wineries, representing the entire region. Leading the jury was Riccardo Cotarella, National and International President of Oenologists, who noted a clear improvement in the general quality level of the wines presented and commented “we like to think that it is also due to this competition, which in any case has a certain resonance at national level”.
The award ceremony took place on February 23rd at the Perugia headquarters of the Umbria Chamber of Commerce, where President Giorgio Mencaroni spoke on behalf of the Umbria Chamber of Commerce and Vice-President and Regional Councillor for Agriculture Roberto Morroni, spoke on behalf of the region of Umbria.

The President of the Chamber of Commerce said, “wine is an increasingly relevant and consistent sector, not only in terms of economic turnover, but also in terms of recognition and territorial identity”.

The commitment of the Lunelli family’s Tenuta Castelbuono has always been the celebration of the territory and the vines that represent it, first and foremost Sagrantino, a powerful fruit of this land, now interpreted in a new way, which has allowed it to achieve a certain recognition even at an international level.
