Tenute Lunelli wins the “5 Grappoli” from Bibenda
Tenute Lunelli Carapace Lunga Attesa 2017, Montefalco Sagrantino D.O.C.G. and Tenute Lunelli Solenida 2019, Sangiovese Costa Toscana I.G.T. win the 5 Grappoli in the Bibenda 2025 Guide, the highest award assigned by this prestigious publication edited by the Italian Sommelier Foundation, which every year rewards the excellence of the Italian wine scene.
The award ceremony took place on November 16th at the Cavalieri Hotel in Rome, during the presentation of the Bibenda Guide, now in its 27th edition, which is a communication tool for producers, experts and enthusiasts in the sector.
Carapace Lunga Attesa is created at Tenuta Castelbuono of Tenute Lunelli, located in the mystical and long-lived land that is Umbria, from grapes from a single organic vineyard about 30 years old. Then, the ‘long wait’: over seven years of ageing and a perfect interpretation of three styles of vinification, in steel, in truncated conical wooden vats and in terracotta, which allow this wine to withstand such long ageing without fear.
A pure Sangiovese, Solenida is the result of a rigorous selection of grapes from Podernovo, the Tuscan estate of Tenute Lunelli, from the sun-exposed vineyards on the Pisan hills. Its name recalls the unique soil’s characteristic from which it originates, rich in fossil shells, including, precisely, Solenidae, testifying the presence of the sea millions of years ago. The strong minerality that comes from it, gives this wine a unique character, amplified by the use of terracotta amphorae during vinification.
Once again, Tenute Lunelli proves that the work done in the vineyard, with full respect for the land and those who work it, and in the cellar, with experience and great attention to the timing of the earth, creates elegant and unique wines.
