Tenute Lunelli excels at Decanter World Wine Awards

The eagerly awaited Decanter World Wine Awards rewarded two great Tenute Lunelli wines with excellent scores, awarding 93 points to Tenute Lunelli Auritea 2018, Cabernet Franc Costa Toscana IGT and 90 points to Tenute Lunelli Carapace 2019, Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG.
Auritea is a pure Cabernet Franc, whose name derives from the fossil shell of marine origin that has been present for millions of years in the soils of the Tuscan hillside where its grapes grow, giving this wine a unique minerality. Tenuta Podernovo’s flagship label, Auritea was created in collaboration with oenologist Luca d’Attoma, who was able to enhance the grapes from the Olmo vineyard located on the Podernovo hill. The tasting conducted by Decanter highlighted the hints of aromatic herbs, redcurrants and green pepper that distinguish this wine, leaving room for notes of leather, grilled meat and, on the finish, dark chocolate.
The Montefalco Sagrantino Carapace, on the other hand, comes from the Umbrian Castelbuono winery. This wine takes its name from the cellar-sculpture where it is created, designed by Maestro Arnaldo Pomodoro, who was inspired by the very strength of this ancient land to create what appears to be a copper dome that recalls the power of the soil and the vineyards that embrace it. A typical expression of the Sagrantino that characterizes this territory, the Carapace surprises for its elegance, and it is described by Decanter tasters as “pleasantly rich on the palate, with lively hints of red and black fruits, combined with a touch of sweetness”.
These scores confirm the great passion and constant work in the vineyard and in the cellar of Tenute Lunelli, which are also recognized internationally by major magazines such as Decanter, a historic wine magazine that reaches more than 660,000 wine enthusiasts from 99 countries around the world every month.
