Tenute Lunelli's Carapace Lunga Attesa is one of the 10 Best Wines of Italy according to Bibenda

Bibenda, the official guide of the Italian Sommelier Foundation, which is in its 25th edition this year and represents one of the Italian benchmarks in the sector, awarded its 10 Best Wines of Italy during the 5 Grappoli 2023 Festival, held in Rome on December 3rd. Among the winners was the first vintage of Tenuta Castelbuono’s new label.

Presented to the public only a few months ago, Carapace Lunga Attesa is characterised by its ability to best express the characteristics of Sagrantino Montefalco, especially its extraordinary potential for long ageing.

The grapes, that are carefully selected and harvested by hand from an organic vineyard that is over 30 years old, are then divided for a special three-part fermentation. Some are placed in steel tanks, others in 10 hl truncated conical wooden vats and the final part in terracotta amphorae. From this, three different wines are born that are then blended according to the vintage and further refined in wood and bottle for at least 7 years. The result of this lengthy process is a rich, enveloping wine of great charm, with intense ruby hues and hints of blackberry, plum and tobacco.
