Tenute Lunelli's Carapace 2018 wins Gold Medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2023

Great success for Tenute Lunelli at the prestigious international wine-tasting competition organised by Decanter, one of the most authoritative English publications in the world; Carapace 2018, Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG, was awarded the Gold Medal, scoring 95/100.

An international jury of 230 professionals evaluated more than 18,000 labels from 50 countries around the world; Carapace 2018, a pure Sagrantino, won the Gold Medal and thus ranked among the best Italian wines.

Sagrantino is an indigenous grape variety from Umbria and Carapace 2018 represents one of its finest interpretations. The skillful work in the vineyard, the use of amphorae and terracotta jars during vinification and maturation in large oak barrels have created an elegant label with great longevity.
Characterised by a profound aromatic intensity and complexity, the nose offers an enveloping fragrance of ripe black fruits, such as blackberry and blueberry, which blend harmoniously with spicy nuances and hints of rose. In the mouth, the wine reveals a full body and a powerful structure, with soft but firm tannins that give a pleasant rounded sensation. The black fruit flavours develop further, enriched by hints of dark chocolate and liquorice. The palate is characterised by its creaminess and persuasive power, offering a long, lingering finish.

This prestigious gold medal is recognition of Tenute Lunelli’s passionate work and unwavering commitment to producing excellent wines that capture the essence of the land where they are produced, with full respect for the environment thanks to organic viticulture.
