Tenuta Castelbuono among the 21 wineries awarded by “L’Umbria del Vino”

Once again, Tenute Lunelli – Castelbuono is among the key wineries of the Regional Wine Competition “L’Umbria del Vino“: the event, now in its third edition, turned the spotlight on Umbria’s excellent wines from 61 wineries. The jury of experts chaired by Riccardo Cotarella, one of the most authoritative oenologists on the Italian and international scene, declared the 21 winning labels from among the 166 in the competition.

After two editions in which Ziggurat, Montefalco Rosso DOC had already won the ‘Best Red DOC/DOCG Wine’ award, this year it was the turn of the Carapace 2018, Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG to win the ‘Best Organic Wine’ category. Carapace takes its name from the cellar-sculpture designed by Maestro Arnaldo Pomodoro for the Lunelli family.  It is the symbol of the estate, which is inspired by the Umbrian land; ancient and powerful, like its most representative vine, Sagrantino. Carapace is intended to be the best expression of this variety, unique in its power and longevity, and which, thanks to the dedication of the Tenuta Castelbuono, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, has been transformed into a fascinating wine of unexpected softness.

The award also celebrates the commitment that has led to the organic and biodiversity friend certification of all the estates’ vineyards, as well as all its wines; a goal that has been reached for years now and which is part of the Lunelli family’s vision of upholding respect for the land and those who work on it.

The Regional Wine Competition “L’Umbria del Vino”, promoted by the Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with the Region of Umbria, agricultural associations and other local bodies, aims to enhance Umbrian wines and promote them in national and international markets, as well as to discover new talents on the regional wine scene. The wines presented, authentic expressions of the land and the passion of the producers, won over the expert jurors with their extraordinary character and personality, becoming champions of flavours, traditions and destinations where the culture of wine is interwoven with the beauty of the landscape and the artistic history that populates it.
