Carapace Lunga Attesa 2018 Named Best DOCG Red Wine of Umbria at L’Umbria del Vino 2026

Carapace Lunga Attesa 2018 has been awarded the title of Best DOCG Red Wine of Umbria at L’Umbria del Vino 2026, one of the region’s most authoritative competitions dedicated to celebrating Umbria’s finest wines. The wine is born from the vineyards surrounding Tenuta Carapace of Tenute Lunelli – Carapace, a winery-sculpture unique of its kind, designed by master sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro. Inspired by the form of a turtle’s shell, an emblem of longevity and strength.
Each year, L’Umbria del Vino brings together the region’s leading producers, offering an important showcase for Umbria’s denominations and a rigorous qualitative comparison among its finest labels. Wines are assessed by a panel of experts through blind tastings, according to criteria that reward stylistic precision, territorial authenticity, and ageing potential.
Within this highly competitive context, the achievement of Carapace Lunga Attesa 2018 Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG is particularly significant, recognizing a winemaking project founded on research, technical rigor, and a long-term vision.
The 2018 vintage stands out for its balance and depth: the bouquet reveals intense notes of ripe dark berries, spices, and balsamic nuances, while on the palate the dense yet harmonious tannic structure is supported by freshness and remarkable persistence. “Lunga Attesa” (Long Wait) is more than a name, it is a statement of intent: a wine conceived for time, capable of evolving gracefully and expressing, year after year, the richness of the Umbrian terroir.
With this award, Carapace Lunga Attesa 2018 further establishes itself among the most distinguished expressions of the Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG denomination, an ambassador of elegance, structure, and extraordinary ageing potential.
