Wine Enthusiast gives high ratings to the wines of Tenuta Castelbuono

The authoritative American magazine devoted to the world of wine, whose ratings are some of the most highly-awaited by the trade each year, has given excellent scores to the wines of Tenuta Castelbuono, assigning 90 points out of 100 to the Carapace 2015 and 92 points, with the special mention “Editor’s Choice”, to the Lampante 2015.

2015 was a splendid year for the Lunelli family’s Umbrian estate, as confirmed by the tasting notes of Kerin O’Keefe, Wine Enthusiast’s correspondent in Italy, who gave this description of the Carapace: “aromas of mature blackberry, crushed herb and underbrush; the lively, full-bodied palate offers dried cherry, prune, baking spice and licorice”.

The Lampante, made from a blend of 70% Sangiovese, 15% Sagrantino and 15% split between Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, according to Kerin O’Keefe, “offers alluring aromas of baked plum, truffle, culinary spice and a whiff of new leather. The elegant, vibrant palate doles out ripe Marasca cherry, raspberry compote, star anise and cinnamon, while taut, refined tannins provide structure and finesse. It’s balanced, with bright acidity. Drink through 2024”.
This appraisal also earned the wine a special mention as the “Editor’s Choice”.
